Late summer evenings and early fall are the perfect time to head to the grocery store for some marshmallows, chocolate squares, and graham crackers. Let's not forget the one day out of the year we can dress up as our favorite character or hero and not be weird! Though I don't care for the creepy side of Halloween the costumes and the sweet delicious candy is one of my favorites. (Might have something to do with my sweet tooth.) To that end I've been working on my fall pieces for the Etsy Shop. Now when I think of a white Halloween candy basket a white ghost is the typical thing that comes to mind. But since I didn't want to have a ghost for my first basket this year I tried to think of something else, and making it super cute was a given. Hence the S'mores Marshmallow basket! At first I was only going to do the marshmallow, but while working on the sketches and talking with ladies at the Phoenix Business Boutique they suggested doing the full s'more with the traditional graham cracker and chocolate. They didn't think just the marshmallow itself would really explain what it was, and I had to agree with them. Now that it's finished I might want to make a second 'toasted' one with a silly face. Not sure how I will make it look right and toasted at the same time, but that's what a sketchbook is for! Now I just have to resist the urge to eat it. (Yes I know its crochet, but it's so cute and yummy looking!)
Starting in July the basket and the pattern will be available in the Etsy shop along with others from the Fall lineup. I love new ideas from customers I would have never thought of. This project was just one of those. A mother from my bible study class asked me for an armadillo for her daughter. She sent me a pattern she had found on Ravelry, but to be honest I couldn't figure out what the little fringe was. Instead I did my own search for pictures and found this pattern on Ravelry by Kati Galusz. You should have seen the look on this little girl's face when she got to hold it for the first time! She was so excited! I love how adorable this pattern turned out to be and love the fact that you can roll it up. CHANGES
I did make some changes to the pattern from Kati. The armadillo was twice as big as the pattern is made for, the easy way to do this with a pattern is to simply double everything, from the amount of stitches to the number of rows. On the body of the armadillo I worked it in single crochet instead of the half double crochet. I didn't make any changes to the shell except to increase it's size to fit the body. I had to add a few stitches to the width and increase the length. All in all I have to say this is a great pattern and beginners can enjoy this little rolling cutie. So if you'd like to try making it please check out Kati's page on Ravelry! Ever wonder what Togepi looks like at full size? Wonder no more! Newest to the line up of Pokemon I've made this 12" egg wonder joins the rest. When you "gotta catch 'em all" there is now one less to find.
