The potholder on the right is one of Aunt Betty's she made for my mom. It has to be... over 30 years old? It was a gift from my mom when I moved out to start my own home. Since then it's seen a lot of use, been stained, and even has some light heat damage. 🤣 That's the big question when it comes to crochet or even fabric when making items to use in your kitchen. Do you make it out of cotton because it won't melt? Or do you want to use acrylic because it's cheaper? Has more colors? The list can go on. In my opinion, you can use either. If you sell pot holders it's worth mentioning to people to keep away from high temperatures if you choose acrylic, even in the dryer. I made a snowflake Christmas tree skirt a long time ago one of the cats decided to mark it. My husband washed it on the highest sanitize setting and then popped it in the dryer. It was never the same. There's a term for when the yarn is overheated I can't recall at the moment of writing, but it can happen to the best of us.
